BIOGRAPHY

With over 25 years of teaching experience, Allison Kelsey holds a Bachelor of Music from The University of Alabama (2009), Master of Music from the University of Houston (2011), and is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Alabama.  She has studied with Sheryl Cohen (author, Bel Canto Flute: The Rampal School), Diane Boyd-Schultz (Yamaha Performing Artist), Aralee Dorough (Principal, Houston Symphony Orchestra), and during summer festivals in France with Benoît Fromanger (former Paris Opera House and Bavarian Radio Symphony) and Jean-Louis Beaumadier (international soloist and former National Orchestra of France).  A seasoned performer, Mrs. Kelsey has held principal flute and piccolo positions in the Huxford Symphony Orchestra, University of Alabama Wind Ensemble, Tuscaloosa Winds, the Moore’s School Symphony Orchestra, and the Hunterdon Symphony Orchestra.  Specializing in performing on and teaching piccolo, Allison has been a featured soloist with the Tuscaloosa Winds, The University of Alabama Wind Ensemble, and the CPC Noon Day Concert Series in Austin, Texas. 

Mrs. Kelsey has taught numerous private students and masterclasses in Alabama, Texas, New Jersey, Missouri, North Carolina, and South Carolina, as well as working as a counselor, assistant flute instructor, flute choir conductor, and chamber music coach with multiple summer music and orchestra camps.  As a doctoral student she also served as Instructor of Music Appreciation and stepped in as a Sabbatical Replacement - Instructor of Applied Flute at the University of Alabama.  Students in Mrs. Kelsey’s studio have consistently placed highly at All-State, music festivals, and have been accepted into multiple collegiate music degree programs.
